Cocaine: What is it?

Cocaine is a central nervous system stimulant as well as a topical anesthetic.
The drug comes from the leaves of the coca bush, which grows primarily in regions of the Andes Mountains in South America.

Cocaine is a white powder which is prepared by processing the leaves of the coca plant. often called Coke, it is commonly inhaled (snorted) but may also be injected. Usually, it is diluted or 'cut' with look-alikes, such as cornstarch or talcum, as a means of increasing the quantity of the drug available for sale.

Cocaine may be processed into small rocks known as 'crack.' Crack is vaporized over a flame, and the vapours are then inhaled (smoked).

Cocaine was originally used as a local anesthetic and as an ingredient in Coca Cola. It is now considered dangerous and is an illegal drug to posses."
